SDCopy
06/30/2009 UPDATE: There is a newer version of the software available. Please visit this post on www.zyvid.com to download the file and get support (link is at the end of the thread), or you can directly download the file.
I bought a new video camera recently. It’s a Victor/JVC Everio GZ-MG530 harddisk camcorder. 5MP with a 30GB HDD and expandable with Micro SDHC flash cards. So far I like it, it’s great for family use and good on the go. Good video quality given that it records straight to MPEG2.
My old one was a Panasonic NV-GS500 which I sorely sorely miss. For anyone who wants a good semi-pro camera, this is a great camera with superb picture quality. 4MP 3CCD camera. Probably not nearly has good as the newer cameras that have come out, but great as an entry level camera, given the current generation of digital camcorders.
Anyways, so back to my Everio. It’s a great camera and I like it a lot, but the one quirk about it is that even though it records to MPEG2, the file is actually a .MOD file which wasn’t compatible with anything else other than the software that came with the camera. I also noticed that when I tried to play the video on my computer, the aspect ration would default to 4:3 even though the video itself was recorded in 16:9. Now here is a big problem! So I googled around and I found a thread where people were having similar issues, and stumbled across a small application called SDCopy which as the name implies, copies the videos out of the HDD Camcorder while also renaming the file to .MPG and setting a flag to make sure the aspect ratio stays at 16:9, assuming thats what you want. Great little application, I have to give props to the creator, whoever you are! Anyways, if you have an Everio camcorder, and you’re having issues like myself and others, have a look at SDCopy! It’ll work wonders!
